“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” ~ Psalm 34:8 (kjv)
When was the last time you tasted God? If you licked Him what flavor would He taste like? John 1:1 tells us that God is His Word. Psalms 138:2 reveals that God has exalted His word even above His name. What does God’s word taste like? David saysthat God’s words tastes “sweeter than honey to his lips”. When commanded by God to eat the scroll, Ezekiel describes,”so I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.”
I believe that we taste God by indulging in His word. Before we can see God move or trust in Him we have to acquaint ourselves with who He is and what He has promised. A speaker once said,”you will crave what you consistently injest”. We condition our appetite by what we regularly feed on.
If God’s word is sweet like honey why don’t more of us crave it? In Numbers 9 God instructs Moses to prepare the passover meal with bitter herbs. Exodus later tells us the purpose of the bitter herbs was to remind the children of Israel of their days in bondage. Let me make this statement,”Jesus tastes sweet when sin tastes bitter.” If we are not training our tastesbuds to crave God than everything but His word will attract our attention. Our busy schedules, TV, the internet, and every distraction under the sun will try to move us away from His word. As we ingest God’s word He becomes sweeter and the things of the world are put in their proper perspective (bitter).
Romans 8:5 says,”Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” I don’t know about you, but I’m not content with just tasting God. I want want to SEE that He is good. I will never see His goodness without first tasting His word.
